Book four in the Twilight series annouced! and other news…

Posted in Twilight, New Moon, Stephenie Meyer on February 8, 2007 by sherid

Just noticed on Stephenie Meyer’s website that the fourth book in the Twilight series, Breaking Dawn, is tentatively scheduled for the fall of 2008. The third book, Eclipse, is supposed to come out in August or September of this year. Can’t hardly wait. There is still no release date for Midnight Sun, which is Twilight told from Edward’s perpective, but if you want a little tease, click here for the first chapter.

Also, she has found a publisher for her adult science fiction book, The Host, which she describes as science fiction for people who don’t like science fiction. Here is the tentative cover:

And, for all you really obsessive types, you an wear your appreciation for all things Twilight by visiting Twilight Teez. I love the Edward fan-club t-shirt. It says”Bite Me” , I like it.

One more thing, if you have read New Moon, and are not that crazy about Jacob Black, Stephenie Meyers wants to change that. She wants us to like him, so much so that she wrote a little piece told from his perspective and you can read it here – Being Jacob Black.

Finally, since so many readers seem to come here looking for news about the Twilight series, I am adding a new “Twilight” catagory to my blog so information will be easy to find.

That is all. Never thought I’d be this into the undead.

I get so many hits, and comments from Twilight fans, that I felt compelled to start a discussion thread about it in the books section of a message board I frequent.  Click here to start the discussion.  You will have to register to post, but its painless so go for it.

If enough people start posting I’m sure we could put in a request for a seperate Twilight Forum at some point.

A Little Diddie about Cover Art

Posted in The Line, Twilight, New Moon, Stephenie Meyer on February 6, 2007 by sherid

Ok.  It was a little bit of a buzz-kill that I didn’t get more (haha your so funny) type comments on my Willie Nelson self help book post.  I guess bookish folk don’t appreciate pot humor as much as fans of That 70’s Show, or Fast Times at Ridgemont High.  I still thought it was funny, but I’ll move on like a big girl.

Bookslut has an interesting feature on was she feels was The Worst Cover Art of 2006Among the casualties she lists:

Suite Francaise  – Arty World War II Fetishism:

and The Road by Cormac McCarthyPost-Apocalyptic Dour Lit:

to read all her pithy little comments go here.  That Bookslut sure is a funny gal.

Also, Stephenie Meyer, author of the Twilight series has a new page on her website called Craptastic Covers, where she shows us some rejected cover  art for Twilight and New Moon.  Here are a few…

More from Stephenie Meyer

Since I get so many visitors here that are interested in reading about Twilight and New Moon, I thought I would share a terrific interview with Stephenie Meyer that I found on A Motley Vision.  The interview discusses, among other things, her Mormon background, how Twilight was born, and how she went about writing the book.  Here’s a little taste

The idea for Twilight came to you in a dream. Would you be willing to re-relate the genesis of the novel for AMV’s readers?

I know the exact date of my dream — it was June 2, 2003 — because it was the first day of swim lessons and the first day of my much-delayed post-baby diet and I had a hundred more things to do besides. I woke up that morning with a dream fresh in my head. The dream was vivid, strong, colorful… It was a conversation between a boy and a girl which took place in a beautiful, sunny meadow in the middle of a dark forest. The boy and the girl were in love with each other, and they were discussing the problems involved with that love, seeing that she was human and he was a vampire. The boy was more beautiful than the meadow, and his skin sparkled like diamonds in the sun. He was so gentle and polite, and yet the potential for violence was very strong, inherent to the scene. I delayed getting out of bed for a while, just thinking through the dream and imagining what might happen next. Finally, I had to get up, but the dream stayed in my head all through my morning obligations. As soon as I had a free moment, I sat down at the computer and started writing it out so I wouldn’t forget it. I wrote ten pages that day — what eventually would be Chapter 13 — and that night I started into my imaginings of where the story would have gone if I hadn’t woken up. I wrote every single day for the rest of that summer, and finished the book near the end of August.

Pretty Interesting stuff. How many times have you had an amazing dream and said to yourself, I really need to write this down, only to forget about it later. She also talks about her writing process, which I found really interesting because she writes the “money scenes” first and then goes back to write all the transition and filler. That seems so much more enticing to me than going from beginning to end. To read more about this, the film project, and the rest of the interview, go here.  Also, if you have read Twilight and New Moon and are addicted and need a quick fix.  Read the first chapter of Midnight Sun, which is Twilight written from Edwards perspective.

Clip of Stephenie Meyer speaking about writing Twilight

Stephenie Meyer speaks at BYU 1

Just found this little clip of Stephenie Meyer speaking at BYU about writing Twilight. I love how she talks about shying away from creative writing classes because of her fear of having to be “creative on demand.” Sounds familiar.

Edward Cullen = McDreamy

New Moon Cover

I just finished New Moon by Stephenie Meyer after sneaking into the bathroom all day at work to try to read little bits and pieces of it  ( I got busted by the way by one of my saavy co-workers, who has now nicknamed me employee of the month).  After reading and loving Twilight, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this.   The sequel picks up with Bella and Edward’s romance in full swing.  It’s her birthday and Edward and his vampire family are having a party for Bella when (OOPS) she accidently cuts her finger (insert sound of record scratching as the party comes to an abrubt end) and the sight and smell of her blood makes the vampires crazy.   After this incident Edward painfully decides its time for he and his family to move on.  Bella sinks into depression and the story begins.

I enjoyed New Moon, but not as much as Twilight.  Although,  it did have  the same relentless grip on me that Twilight did.  The most compelling parts of the story are the heated exchanges between Bella and Edward,  so when Edward left I just really wanted him to come back.  I wasn’t all that interested in Bella’s friendship with Jacob, which took up a good portion of the book,  and I found myself tempted to skim to the parts when she would finally be with Edward again (because you know they HAD to get back together in the end).  What is it about these books that get you so hooked?  It’s a little like Gray’s Anatomy.  I just HAVE to find out where Edward and Bella’s little bloodsucking romance is going to take them.  Is Edward McDreamy or McSteamy?…and if only it would come on every Thursday night.

Thankfully, there is a third book in the works titled Eclipse which chronicles the story from Edward’s point of view (sigh).  Until then for all things Edward and Bella, you can check out Stephenie Meyer’s website.

TWILIGHT

I am currently obsessed with this book.  I can’t quite explain the appeal since its basically a YA book about a girl who falls in love with a vampire.  Not really being into vampires or YA fiction, the book has managed to completely suck me in (pun intended).  Not one more day will end without me finishing  this book.  Just try to stop me, I dare you…..
